"Not So Gay" Gordon's Kitchen Nightmare
Anyone who tells you the restaurant business is easy ought to be b*tch slapped until they see sense. When it comes to taking criticism, chefs and restaurateurs need to be very thick skinned and the addition of a glued-on plastic smile becomes an essential shield as you're told in no uncertain terms that you're rubbish.
Imagine for one moment that you're Gordon Ramsay. You're wealthy, sought after and probably the most famous chef in the world. But you'e no longer as famous for the food you produce, your fame is really based on the way in which you deal with, for want of a better term,"kitchen wannabees". You're constantly on telly telling people how naff they and their cooking really is. And what good entertaintment this makes, it certainly sells well.
All that hard earned dough is now the subject of new investment into a restaurant in New York, after all that's where your real passion lies, you want people to remember how good your culinary skills are. Then, Bam! You get knocked for six by the New York food-crticis - your lobster pasta is like leather, your scallops are overdone, along with your over-egged sauce.
Ok so that's bad enough for a top cuisine expert - then to top it all off you come 50th in a poll of the top 50 gay icons - how ludicrous is that?
All I can say is "I doff my cap" - if that's all they can do (this week) to bring down the son of a hard womanising drunk whose failed injury-infested professional football career was replaced by a "poofs - cooking job" then there's hope for every ordinary man on the street.
Respects due, where respect's due I say....
