Brain Power For Seafood Lovers

Scientific claims:

Dr Michael Crawford PhD, CBiol, FIBiol, FRCPath is a leading expert in brain chemistry and human nutrition, specialising in work on dietary fats and the health benefits of Essential Fatty Acids to humans.

Our brain's health is increasingly being linked to a dependence on farmed fish and ocean management. Dr Crawford has claimed that we must manage our seas and farm seafood more abundantly (like traditional land based farming) if we are to expect our species to remain healthy and our brains in particular.

The key issue is that the brain evolved in the sea 500 to 600 million years ago using marine lipids. Dr Crawford said. It still uses and depends on the same marine lipids today. The marine food chain is by far the richest source of these brain specific lipids.

He specifically considers that the sutainability of wild stocks should be a priority but modern aquaculuture has a key role to play. Especilally projects like those that hatch species such as lobster in captivity and return them to the wild when they are of sufficient size to survive or in other words "marine restocking".
