Can't Cook, Won't Cook! Observing Our Daily Eating Preferences
It has been argued that healthy food costs more to buy than unhealthy foods and that is why people eat more unhealthty foods such as ready meals, microwave chips and frozen burgers. From personal experience I think it's more down to laziness and a need to reward ourselves with comfort food after having worked hard today. Unless that is you're a skilled cook/ chef, who can whip up healthy food that you'll want to eat in minutes.
However, when you factor preparation time into the equation healthy food is far more expensive. Time is the most expensive commodity we humans own. Therefore, if you really value healthy eating, you'll spend the time and practise healthy cooking and eating more. If you have little spare time or you're just plain lazy you're more likely to eat more unhealthy foods. Here's an excerpt from a recent article : A survey of food-buying patterns of 12 million consumers has found that, in the past four years, 44 per cent of people have made no change to their eating habits. Only 8 per cent of shoppers have moved towards a healthier diet, while almost as many are deliberately shunning a good diet and eating more junk food.
